Attributes, Advance!
What-if rules for TROIKA:
Every time you hit 0 Stamina and survive, get an advance tick in Stamina. 4d6 versus to raise it.
Re-roll Skill every morning. 1d3+3 if you sleep in a good bed. 2d3 if you don't.
Luck can substitute any other Advanced Skill, but not Spells.
Get an advance tick in Luck every time you hit 0 Luck. 2d6 versus.
Advanced Skills come in two varieties: Esoteric and Exoteric. Exoteric skills can be tried by anyone with raw Skill, and will gain an advance in that skill if they like. Esoteric skills require a teacher or, alternatively, years of single minded dedication and thought. HOWEVER! New things are hard (and having a million daft "skills" is messy), so when rolling to advanced from 0 -> 1 in, say Climb, you need to roll ALL THREE advances against it. So no other advances. And if any of them fail you don't get the point.
Re-roll ALL attributes every time you sleep 8 hours. You get the usual rolls if you sleep in a safe place in a warm bed, OR you get 1d6/4d6/2d6 if you sleep rough, outside, anywhere someone has to keep watch or otherwise "camping" scenarios.
ALTERNATIVE: Where you sleep determines your morning roll.
- Outside, dangerous, rough, in bad weather: 1d6/4d6/2d6, roll twice and keep the worst one
- Decent camping scenario, typical D&D boys night around the fire, while still dangerous enough to keep watch: 1d6/4d6/2d6
- As above, but no one is staying awake to keep an eye out. 1d6/4d6/2d6, roll twice and keep the best one
- Shitty bed, indoors, maybe a barn or a stable (or a cot in a basement), safe-ish. Normal rules, roll twice and keep the worst.
- An inn, tavern, friendly bed of some sort. Roll as per the usual rules. Roll twice and keep the worst one if you're STILL taking watches.
- An awesome inn. Luxurious, well protected from danger, probably has a bath and everything. Normal rules, roll twice and keep the best results.
BUT WHAT IF I ROLL PERFECT AND JUST NEVER SLEEP AGAIN. Simple: your 3 ration heal is not PER DAY it's per WAKING PERIOD. Wanna heal? Better sleep.
I quite like this last one.
